What I wore in July for dinners, birthdays, the theatre and errands

I had an unusually busy month in July of fun outings that included my birthday, a dinner with girl friends for my birthday, a friends birthday, a date night other couples and a special date night with my husband. Here’s a quick snap shot of what I wore to each.

First up was a pre-birthday date night with my husband to dinner and then see The Book of Mormon at the Kennedy Center (Great show by the way!). I got this Splendid dress last summer (similar to this). I wore last summer knowing it was loose on me on the top so this year, I finally took it to my favorite place, the tailor (ha!), and had it taken up at the top so it was hanging on me so much. I wore it with my favorite Toms wedges and this necklacebracelet, and earrings.

The next day was my birthday. I wore this outfit to have lunch with my mom, get my nails done, and dinner with my family that night. I wore a simple white tank from the J.Crew outlet I got back in April, old shorts from J.Crew last summer (similar to these, mine have a jacquard pattern to them), really old wedges from Michael by Michael Kors (closest would be these) and this Stella & Dot necklace.

Later that week I went to dinner with my girlfriends to celebrate my birthday. I wore my favorite Citizens of Humanity jeans, white hi lo tank (like this one), old black wedges (like these) and this rose gold druzy necklace and earrings from Wrenn Jewelry (her online shop is closed at the moment but I suggest checking back for when it re-opens).

The next night we had dinner with some friends. This black tank and white jeans combo I have worn to a night out before I like it so much for its simplicity and back drop to a colored necklace. 🙂 The tank is this one (here it is in white and a similar one), these jeans, old heels from Banana Republic (similar), and an agate necklace (similar) and the purse is the Valentina by Botkier, which I can’t find anywhere online anymore so try this one.

Last, was this dress (V neck version)/ old shoes (similar)/necklace – old and was a gift (similar in gold) that I wore to stop by a jewelry & make up party before running to a friend’s birthday dinner. Sorry the lighting isn’t good. I was really rushing and remembered last minute to try and capture my outfit. I bought the dress on a whim back in late spring and it did run big, I’m wearing an XXS. But I love it and can’t say enough about how comfortable it is and how versatile it is! Don’t remember what purse I was using but I think it was just my everyday black one.

Finally, below is what I wore on a normal day to run errands and take kids to/from camp. It’s kind of my “staple” every day outfit for the summer. Some variation of shorts, casual tank, sandals, and some fun but understated jewelry. I’m not usually seeing anyone special unless I am meeting a girlfriend for coffee or running into someone in Target. ha!

Then, I was off to the beach so a few outfits from the family beach trip will be in another post. 🙂

*I had this pair of jeans I bought a few years ago. They had very slight distressing around the waist which I loved. I had them hemmed and never loved the bottom of them after that but always loved how they looked and felt at the top. They sat in a drawer while I continued to debate whether to keep them or give them away. Then, I had this idea – why not cut them and make them into shorts!? I took the leap with them early this summer by taking them to tailor and making sure I was picking the right length to cut them at and then asked the tailor to cut them for me. That way, they were cut even and cut with good scissors. They didn’t even charge me to cut them! Voila – a new favorite pair of jean shorts was born! 🙂
