What I Wore – September 2017

Hi, and happy October! Anyone else feel like September flew by? For me, it was such a whirlwind of a month I’m kind of happy to have it behind me except…..October isn’t shaping up to be any quieter. Ha!

What I noticed for September is that there were some definite highs and lows of temperature so my outfits were a bit all over the place. The month started off cool, got really hot, cooled off again for a short bit and then ended with more warm temperatures. Hello Fall – are you out there?! In any case, I had some random events for the month besides my usual gym and errands. One night we had both a 40th birthday party and a housewarming party to go to, plus, we had our anniversary and two Jewish holidays. I also went apple picking with my daughters. Let’s get to it!

Casual Outfits

Outfit #1

Terez leggings (XS) – Bloomies also has them | Jslides sneakers | Hoodie is really old

So this pair of leggings from Terez, I hemmed and hawed about getting, but once I got them and wore them, oh my gosh, I’m so glad I got them! They are really comfortable (this pair has a higher waist then my other cropped pair) and I decided the print is a lot of fun to wear. This was one of the last days of Summer before my kids were back in school, it was cool out and cloudy and just called for being comfortable. And I didn’t have time to take a picture before we ran out of the house….to get coffee. And go somewhere important I’m sure. 😛

Outfit #2

Athleta legging | Jslides sneakers (these are the Ariana, but there is this other version that is similar and I just ordered the Anteek style for something different!) | Loft tee (old)

This was also right around Labor Day weekend like the picture above, so it was still quite cool out but was also now a Saturday and rainy. In my book, it called for comfort again but I wanted to look a bit more pulled together because this was the day I took my almost 6 year old daughter to get her ears pierced! I got these leggings because I love how they basically are leggings and feel like them, but the zippers make them a bit more polished looking.  I took 2 pictures to try and show the side zippers/pockets. By the way, these leggings  will definitely be a new favorite to travel in! My pair of Jlsides I got this past Spring. They’re just a very simple black slip on sneaker but they came in my size, which is hard to find, and have a soft back at the heel, which is a huge issue for me. I am very narrow and bony there so a lot of shoes give me blisters. These babies do not!

Outfit #3

Madewell Tee (Small)| Current/elliott jeans (TTS)| Tory Burch sandals

Can’t say I remember what I wore this for so I’m going to guess I was running errands, or something like that. I got this Madewell tee at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I’ll be honest – I like it a lot. It is linen, though, and I originally got it in an XS, washed it and it shrank. Took it back and got the next size. So, buyer beware! Meanwhile, the slight peplum is a bit different of a style for me but I really like it in this tee. And these jeans are also from the sale – I’ve worn them a bunch of times and really am loving them.

 Outfit #4

Gap Shorts (TTS) | Old J.Crew tank | Tkees Duos sandals

This must have been when the weather got quite warm again. Lol.

Outfit #5

Tank – old | Athleta Bra (a favorite of mine – can you see the stripes? I have it in white, too) | Alo Leggings (sold out, most similar style from Alo) | Nike Juvenate Sneakers

Feel like it’s been awhile since I’ve posted any gym outfits and I think it’s because I didn’t really buy much over the Summer (I have since remedied that, though, hahaha). BUT, this pair I got at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and I’d been patiently waiting for it to cool off again so I could wear them. And it had to be a day I wasn’t doing yoga since I like to wear cropped leggings for that. The perfect day rolled around at the end of the month, FINALLY. I went to the gym to do some cardio and ended up taking a walk outside with a friend instead. In any case, the leggings are really comfortable, my first pair by ALO! There are 2 similar versions I really like, ‘the elevate’ and ‘the airbrushed,’ of course, the very popular ‘moto style’. Honestly, the only reason I haven’t bought the moto style is from my own personal experience with the BP moto leggings last Winter. My legs ended up with indents from the “moto lines.” And while no one could see them, it just felt odd once I took them off. So, I stay away from leggings like that.  But, maybe the Alo ones don’t do that?? Someone enlighten me! 😀

Outfit #6

Athleta Girl Top (XL) – Similar Women’s version (I like the back of both tops) | rag & bone Jeans | Steve Madden Sneakers

Thankfully, we really did have some great weather in September even though the temperatures went up and down. It basically didn’t rain the whole month, minus that first Saturday of Labor Day weekend. This meant I was lucky enough to have perfect weather to go apple picking with my girls.

Dressier Outfits

Moving on to when I got to get dressed up and looked a bit prettier. Hehe.

Outfit #1

Loft Sweater (Petite XS) | Tank | Jeans – I’m embarrassed to admit I don’t even know which pair of jeans these are. I have a lot! I think they’re an older pair but let’s say this pair of AG’s are similar, ok? 😁  | Booties

That same weekend of Labor Day right before school started, I got out to dinner with some girlfriends. It was MUCH needed after those long last few weeks of Summer. I think we all felt relieved that we made it through, like we survived our kids. Ha! In any case, I had to get dressed quick and since it was cool out, I really had no clue what to wear. So, I took a quick look around my closet and made the outfit work so I could wear the new pink sweater. It is so soft that I actually went back later in the month and got it in navy, too. It is a good staple to have, I promise! Pairing it with a simple white tank and booties just made sense for my mood that night. I wanted to be comfortable and laid back.

Outfit #2

Dress, 2 pieces and old – it’s a tank dress with a top that layers over it| Booties – old, Similar

Our anniversary dinner! We actually went out the night after our anniversary since it is the day after my daughter’s birthday, which was the 2nd day of school. Yup, pretty busy timing. It just made sense to wait until that Friday night to get out. We went to the same place we went to the previous year because we enjoyed it so much, Eddie V’s. My mouth waters just thinking about our meal and then….my stomach starts to hurt thinking about how full I was after. Hehe. In any case, this outfit is actually old. The dress is 2 pieces and the reason I’m including it is because I wore it on our anniversary 2 years ago. Yup, I recycled! But, I had the top piece shortened and then this time I wore it with booties and different earrings for an edgier look. And hey, my hair was also straighter, too!

Old way I wore the dress and showing how it’s 2 pieces

All smiles at dinner

Outfit #3

Tank – Old (Yup, I have it in black and white!) | Steve Madden Sandals | Hudson Jeans | Rebecca Minkoff “Love’ Purse – similar version | BB Dakota Jacket

This was the night we had both the 40th birthday party and the housewarming party. I really debated about what to wear since the two parties were so different AND I expected to be standing a lot. For someone with a bad lower back, I had to consider heel height so when I saw these shoes in the store a few days beforeghand, I just immediately bought them. Plus, the material seemed perfect for transitioning to cooler weather.

Outfit #4

Loft Top (TTS) | rag & bone Jeans | Toms Booties | Necklace – old Stella & Dot

Out to dinner with some friends. Bought this ruffled top the same time as I bought the pink sweater cardigan. I liked that the ruffles weren’t too much. Meanwhile, I was just hoping the weather would be perfect enough to wear it when we actually plans to go out and thankfully, it cooperated. It’s a really comfortable material and also comes in gray. I like that the top can be worn dressed up or down.

Outfit #5

Top (actually a bodysuit! Haven’t worn one since I was in middle school but this one is way comfy!) | J. Crew Skirt (wearing a 2)

Are you wondering how I could wear this type of outfit with FLIP FLOPS?! Well, what happened was that my family was coming to dinner at my house for Rosh Hashanah and basically, I was rushing. I got dressed but they came when I was putting my make up on. So, by the time I was done I felt I couldn’t justify going through trying on which shoes to wear that I could both comfortably host in and not kill my feet or back. You see what won out. 😂 Thankfully, it was just close family and they didn’t judge. Next time when I wore this outfit out of the house to go to services, I made sure I had the right shoes to wear.

See here

Shoes – Much better, right?

Outfit #6

Aqua dress – It was on sale so not surprisingly, I don’t see it anymore. This one is similar or this one| Shoes

Another dress I randomly got because it seemed hard to say no to, I mean it was on sale! I liked the updated sleeve  and felt the dress may come in handy for various occasions. In the meantime, I wore it to services but I do plan to have it taken in a bit so it’s a little less loose on me.

That’s a wrap on September.

Happy shopping!

Fall Trend Lust

There are so many Fall trends I’m loving right now that I wanted to put together a post with what is inspiring me the most of what I want to buy and wear, or just lust after. 😀

Thoughts on the Trends

Of course not every trend works for every person, right? As a petite mom, I like the bell sleeve trend but honestly, it doesn’t always work well with my small frame – or my inclination of getting food on my clothes. Do I really need a loose hanging sleeve to increase my chances of getting food on myself?  And is a cold shoulder, velvety soft top or ruffles always the most practical when I’m just running around doing errands. I mean I do love the ruffle trend as long as the ruffles are understated (and don’t require ironing after a washing. Have you ever had a shirt whose ruffles were a nightmare after the wash?! You don’t ever want to wear the top again!). Oh, and those 2 trends, ruffles and bell sleeve together, forget it! You’d laugh at me I’m sure. But, if it works for you, go for it! I consider you lucky that you can pull off multiple trends at once and not look silly while doing it. But for this gal, I have to be more precise in picking and wearing trends that work for my body and my lifestyle.

How I Decide

To avoid feeling overwhelmed, I like to pick one or two new trends to embrace. While the cold shoulder is still a popular style, it is nice to see some different styles on trend now for Fall and Winter. How many cold shoulder tops/blouses can 1 person have?? And what if you don’t even like your shoulders or you get cold easily!? I mean…..So, I’m going to likely go for the ruffle and velvet, but not together like I mentioned. Ha! And then after that, I may continue  looking for the right blouse with a bell sleeve that is not too bell sleeve. Does that make sense?
Without further ado….here are the trends I’m seeing that I found worthy of mentioning and which I’m going to go for!

1. Bell Sleeves, Ruffles and One Shoulder Tops (Cold Shoulder is still there, too!)

Bell sleeves, ruffles, one shoulder and cold shoulder tops are everywhere! Bell sleeves,  have been around for awhile now and they don’t seem to be going anywhere yet but now there is a version where the bell is created by a tie on the sleeve. Kind of interesting – or possibly uncomfortable?? In any case, if you haven’t scooped up one of these styles yet, now is the good time!  As for one shoulder tops, it seems they’re now showing up solo or combined with a cold shoulder. If you’re the kind of person who isn’t too cold to show a little shoulder in the winter, then I’d check out this trend.

As for ruffles, I am enjoying seeing them in a sweatshirt or casual top like the one below by Splendid (most likely for me to buy because not too overwhelming on my petite frame), the Lush one cold shoulder version, or the one from Hinge. I actually got the blue cold shoulder ruffled short sleeved top at Loft recently. It it is comfy and perfect for dressing up for an evening or works well for day time, too, i.e. basically a good transitional piece.

Note: I stopped in at Bloomingdales last week while I was in the middle of working on this post. I tried on 2 ruffle tops, including the Splendid one I mentioned above:

The Velvet by Graham & Spencer top, on the left, is really almost a true sweatshirt because it has actual fleece inside – and I really loved it! But, I am going to wait for now because I am not that far in to the season to be in the mood for such a warm top yet. I also like how the ruffles seem like they will wash well. As for the Splendid top, I liked it, too, but it’s that terry cotton material. And definitely more casual looking of the 2. The price points are similar so we’ll, see which I end up with. Note, they didn’t have the pink version of the Splendid top in the store or I would have tried that color on.

2. Velvet

As for velvet, it seems like an easy trend to try for the Fall/Winter.  This top by Parker (it’s got it all – the velvet, off the shoulder and a ruffle!) is really pretty and feminine. I especially love the pink. I also love this version of the Rebecca Minkoff ‘Love’ purse, this pair of flats by Sam Edelman or this high top from Vince.  I saw this one shoulder blouse by Cooper & Ella top when I was at Bloomingdales but didn’t try it on. It does look comfy and easy to style so a good consideration for incorporating a velvet top in to your wardrobe. This dress by Ali & Jay looks fun (of course, it has the cold shoulder and ruffle!) and for an every day way to wear velvet, try this tee from Z Supply.  Ha! I added a few more options below that I’ve seen that I’ve liked as well.

3. Embellishments and Embroidery

Embellishments and embroidery seem like another fun trend to try this Fall and they’re easy to find – from shoes, shirts, purses, and more, basically they’re all around! Beads and studs seem to be the most popular. Rebecca Minkoff has their same ‘Love’ purse in a version with embellishments that is currently on sale (basically, you can’t go wrong with a Rebecca Minkoff purse this season. Ha!). If you like pretty things on your shoes, try this pair of mules from Sam Edelman (while also embracing the ‘mule’ shoe trend), I love the studs on these Jslides slip on sneakers (boot version here) and also the flowers on this Rails top. This faux leather jacket by Blanknyc is so pretty and actually combines embroidered flowers and studs! More pics below.

4. Cut off hems and step hems for denim

It’s always nice to see easy a new trend in denim that is easy to get in to and I consider the step and cut off hem to be those, especially the cut off hem. I’ve gone for both trends when buying new jeans this Fall. By the way, one great perk about buying a cut off hem pair of jeans – hemming them is easy. Ha! Little secret, I’ve taken 2 pairs of jeans to a local tailor to have them cut instead of doing it myself. I just trust them to do a straighter job and they have those big clothing shears that work so great. Bonus – they may not even charge to do it.  😀Below are my favorites of this trend.

So that’s a wrap on my Fall trends!  Happy shopping!

Easy Fall Outfit

Happy Fall! I don’t know about you all but these last few weeks have been insane! I think it’s mainly due to the kids being back in school, which SHOULD seemingly make my life simpler but it’s been anything but.

I decided to join the PTA at my daughter’s school this year as the Communications Co-Chair and with all the activities we have had this month – a picnic, back to school night, and a restaurant night – plus, all the other parts of the job entails, it’s taken up quite a bit of the time that I’d normally be working or doing this wee little blog of mine, Lattes and Lip Gloss.

My life has basically consisted of the gym, running errands, PTA, work, catching up with some friends I hadn’t seen much over the Summer, taking care of kids, after school activities, dinner, getting kids to bed and playing catch up on paperwork, emails, etc. Throw in there a birthday (my youngest daughter had her birthday her 2nd day of Kindergarten, as if starting Kindergarten wasn’t enough itself!), my 14th anniversary the very next day, a Jewish holiday, a birthday party, a doctor’s appointment or 2, one emergency trip to the vet, and you can basically understand why I haven’t been doing many posts. But, rest assured, I’m getting back in to it as much as I can now that I think things have calmed down for a bit. (Famous last words….)

Originally, I was going to do a different post for today that I’ve been working on but I decided to do this one first since it is really just an easy Fall outfit while I finish up the other post. That post is a bit more in depth look at some Fall trends I’m liking/coveting right now. Besides, it’s only 80 degrees still here in the Northeast so what’s better then picturing Fall while we don’t have it yet? And here’s to wishing it gets here very soon!

Oh, and if you’re as tired of posts with pictures of me in them, don’t worry. The upcoming post has very few of them, I promise. Ha!

Top (Under $25!), runs TTS| Shoes  (From Nordstrom Anniversary Sale), run TTS| Jeans (so soft and comfy!), also run TTS

I found this top back in August so luckily, it’s on sale now. I loved the color (it does come in a few other colors), the fun cut of it and just the easy laid back style of it. Pretty sure it’s a piece that will be getting a lot of wear this Fall

Closer view of the shoes. They are good transition booties but let’s be honest, once the temperature dips to a certain degree, I will not be wearing perforated, or open, anything! They are, however, a great neutral color, perfect for Fall.

This picture shows a better view of the top, with the slit up the side that I really liked. What’s also great about it is it seems long enough to wear with leggings, too.

Also, if you want to laugh, my 9 year old daughter took the top picture for me one day in August when it wasn’t ridiculously hot. She did a pretty good job, right?!

Happy shopping and wishing Fall arrives soon!

What I Wore – August 2017

Yeah, I made it through August and kids are finally back in school – woohoo! I always have such mixed feelings when Summer comes to an end but yet I’m always relieved when the kids start back in school and the routines take over. This year, is particularly exciting for me because my youngest started Kindergarten and for the first time, I have 2 kids in the same school! #lifechanging

I’m actually going to admit that for once, the month of August did not go by fast. Whether that is a good or bad thing remains to be seen but I’m pretty sure my memories of this last month of Summer will be positive. Generally, my kids were still in camp so I know that helped. We had my older daughter’s birthday and party, celebrated my dad’s birthday and then actually went away for 2 days for a short family vacation, just the 4 of us. We went back to this hotel that I love for how kid friendly it is. The last time we went to this hotel my youngest was almost 1, so about 5 years ago. What a difference it makes once the kids are 9 and 6, let me just say!

Anyway, on to the outfit portion of this post. Ha!

Everyday Outfits

Outfit #1

Gap tank, Hudson shorts, Jack Rogers shoes

Gap burnout tank (I actually got this back in April and have gotten a lot of use out it, it is light weight so really perfect for some of those really hot Summer days) and will transition well in to Fall| Hudson shortsJack Rogers sandals | Bracelet | Necklace

Outfit #2

ATM tee Tory Burch sandal

ATM tee (so soft!) | Shorts – my are old from Gap, try these J. Brand for a higher end version or these by Blanknyc for a lower price| Sandals

Outfit #3

Most of this outfit is older but these navy shorts are the J.Crew boardwalk pull on short – 3″. I first got a pair from the regular store in a jacquard print a few years ago and then I filled out a little and had to get a new pair . I got these last year and they are still available!! I still love them because they’re easy to pull on, very comfortable, and wear well. They even have a 5″ version of them now. They are similar to the pair by Madewell I got this Summer in black but a different material. Tank is by Stateside and the sandals are little girls Sam Edelman – both are from last year.

Psst! Did you  notice I finally got a new phone case and pop socket?! Part of my birthday presents! 🙂 ‘

Outfit #4

Madewell tee hudson shorts adidas stan smith

Madewell tee – the infamous whisper cotton one that everyone loves, including me, ha! I also have it in black | Shorts | Shoes (really like the newer version with blue)

This day was slightly cooler for August so I broke out the sneakers and a tee. Honestly, I don’t love how my legs look in these shoes in shorts but whatever. I believe it was raining this day and how hard is it to figure out what shoes to wear on a rainy summer day, right?!

Outfit #5

Shoes | Tee (from the Spring) | Jeans – a favorite by Blanknyc, try these for similar

Meet a friend at the mall for lunch on another rainy day. This day must have been cooler, too, for me to wear jeans in August!

Outfit #6

Top – old Banana Republic | Necklace – Madewell from last Winter, a part of a trio | Pants – old from Athleta, newer version here (so thin and light!) | Shoes

Another cool August day! This was quite welcome from the heat I have to say. Gave me a chance to try out the shoes since I’d only gotten them a week or so beforehand. They’re a new favorite. 😀

Outfit #7

BP tee

BP Tee (on sale!) – Be careful when washing, the first time it shrank and was able to get it again (Have to love Nordstrom!) | Leggings

Wore this the last day of camp for my younger daughter where we were invited to watch their little dance performances. This day was, thankfully, was not as hot as the one when they did this in July. That time it was sweltering!

Spiritual Gangster, Hudson

Tank  – Similar| Shorts

My older daughter had her birthday party at the house with water games so I went for a really casual look this day. And no, my husband and I didn’t coordinate our tops. 😋

Evening Outfits

Outfit #1

Abbeline tank hudson A gold e marc fisher

Abbeline tank (see my post here about it from South Moon Under) | Shoes (You think I wore these enough this Summer??) | Jeans are old A Gold E – I would have worn my new Hudson pair but they weren’t the right length with these shoes, or my new AG pair would have worked but they were at the tailor.

This was for my belated birthday dinner!

Outfit #2

Rebecca Minkoff

Purse – This is a suede Rebecca Minkoff ‘Love Crossbody Purse’ that was a part of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. This purple/lavendar color seems to be no where else anymore so try this color instead | Tank | Jeans

This was for a casual BBQ one Saturday night

Outfit #3

Old Navy dress

Dress – Similar (on sale!) | Shoes | Necklace – Old Kendra Scott,  loving this one

My dad’s bday dinner – pretty simple

Outfit #4

Tank (I ended up tucking the tank in a bit before we left, it just looked better) | Jeans | Shoes – same as above

Casual dinner on vacation. See the floats in the background, best part of the hotel for my kids is that they allow floats in the pool, unlike our regular pool.

Outfit #5

Dress – AGAIN! Wore it with different jewelry this time – last time I did rose gold, this time I went for regular gold to change things up| Same shoes as before, too | Jean jacket

2nd night of vacation dinner. By the way, I didn’t even realize my daughter was wearing her Adidas slides in the picture. I didn’t let her wear them to dinner, I’m not THAT laid back, but this picture was taken after dinner so she had changed them and I didn’t even notice. Ha!

So, that’s a wrap on August’s What I Wore. We’ll see if September will turn out some good outfits to share. Sometimes it all depends on the weather and what I’m up to.

Happy shopping!

White Tee Love

Good morning! Today’s post is all about a new favorite tee I’ve discovered and it’s by this brand called Amour Vert.

I first learned about Amour Vert on the Revolve Clothing website and from the catalog I received from the company directly (No clue how I got the catalog of course but I wasn’t complaining!). I always love a good catalog (yup, I’m a little old school sometimes) to breeze through and I found that this catalog really had some pieces I liked, particularly the tees. From there, I went looking online and it popped up that they sell Amour Vert on Revolve Clothing. Well, lo and behold, I actually had a top from Amour Vert already saved in my ‘Wish List’ on Revolve Clothing’s site. And guess what? Nordstrom is now carrying some tees and tops, too!

amour vert tee tucked under

The Tee

Deciding what tee to start with wasn’t easy. And which site to order it from – directly from Amour Vert, which has the largest selection obviously, Revolve Clothing, which currently has the smallest selection, or Nordstrom, which has a good selection right now. I finally narrowed it down to this tee, called the ‘Lief Slub Tee.’  It seemed the most simple to start with and would be a good gauge of the quality, fit, and style of their tees. The tee also comes in black, too, so I went back and forth on which color to order. White won, obviously. Lol.  I realized I already have a good basic black tee, the Madewell Whisper Cotton tee that I love (and a lot of others, too!), so why bother with another for now.

What’s To Like

So, do I like the tee? Yes, very much!! Why do I love it?

  • Well, it is really soft. It’s made from organic cotton and modal. The material actually reminds me of the slub material in the ATM Anthony Thomas Melillo tee that I bought in the Spring.
  • The Price. This Amour Vert tee is only $42, the ATM tee was $85!
  • It’s not see through when worn with a good nude bra (I’m wearing this ‘Understated Under Wire T-Shirt Bra’ by Natori)
  • It’s a good length – not too short or too long, keep in mind I have a short torso so this is important to me, and I’m only 5’1
  • Not too thin to feel flimsy and show off any body flaw, i.e. it lays nicely
  • Added bonus – the side slit

Here are some other pictures of me wearing the tee.

What I’m wearing with tee: Jslides Sneakers and AG Jeans, old Madewell necklace.

What Else

Well, not surprisingly, I’m a bit hooked on the brand. I plan to try some other tops and tees by Amour Vert soon. Meanwhile, here’s a peek at what else I’m loving right now by the brand.

Happy Shopping!
